Mixed Bag for Farm Equipment Sales Year-to-Date

According to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers' monthly "Flash Report," the sales of all tractors in the U.S. for April 2008 were down 6% compared to the same month last year.

For the four months in 2008, a total of 61,918 tractors were sold, which compares to 69,736 sold through April 2007.

For the month, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (Under 40 HP) were down 7.1%, while 40 & under 100 HP were down 8%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP were up 12.5% over last year, while 4-Wheel Drive tractors were down 28.9% for the month.

For the first four months, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (Under 40 HP) were down 16% from last year, while 40 & under 100 HP were down 15.1%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP were up 22.5%, while 4-Wheel Drive tractors were up 6.1% for the year.

Combine sales were up 34.6% for the month. Sales of combines for the first four months totaled 1,695, an increase of 15.9% over the same period in 2007.
